10 Films you have to see this A/W 2015

The Autumn/Winter season is now my favorite film season, maybe because it’s a sign i’m getting older, but mainly it’s just due to the sheer quality of movies we get.

To make sure you don’t miss anything this Winter we’ve put together a roundup of our must-see films including those movies that have been tipped for Oscar gold!

The Martian

Release Date : September

If the words Ridley Scott and science fiction film cannot get you excited you need to move along now!  Based on the best-selling book by Andy Weir which takes place during a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.

Buzz: Reviews have already started pooring out of screenings from the TIFF with the vast majority being very positive and saying that Ridley Scott is back to his best!  “Let’s science the S%*t out of it” is likely to become a cult saying after this movie is released worldwide!

Release Date : November US / Feb UK

I have to admit i’m a shameless Rocky fan, I had reservations when I first heard that they were doing a movie based on Apollo Creeds son, but after seeing the trailers I have to admit i’m really excited to see this chapter in the Rocky universe! The former World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa serves as a trainer and mentor to Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo Creed.

Buzz: Early word is Warner Bros have a real winner on their hands. Unfortunately the UK release date has been pushed back to Feb 2016!

Release Date : September

icario escalates its action from the streets of American suburbs to the hotly contested U.S.-Mexico border, giving director Denis Villeneuve‘s cast and crew a rich and varied cinematic playground to work with. It’s hard not to be excited for a new Villeneuve joint, especially one that features Emily Blunt as a tough FBI agent dropped into the frontline of the War on Drugs in Mexico, and a supporting cast featuring Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Jon Bernthal.

Buzz: Reviews across the board have been extremely positive – this film looks like being one of those rare breeds – a real adult action thriller with a brain!

Steve Jobs

Release Date : October

Though the specter of a second Fincher-Sorkin collaboration will forever haunt Steve Jobs, what’s been seen of Danny Boyle’s biopic thus far is intensely tantalizing and seemingly far more critical of the late Apple CEO than one might have expected. Bolstered by a dream cast that includes Michael Fassbender as Jobs, alongside Seth Rogen, Kate Winslet, Jeff Daniels, Katherine Waterston,John Ortiz, and Michael Stuhlbarg, Boyle’s take on the digital pioneer puts specific focus on the emotional distance and lack of empathy (or sympathy) that came along with Jobs’ sizable ambitions

Bridge of Spies

Release Date : November

An American lawyer is recruited by the CIA during the Cold War to help rescue a pilot detained in the Soviet Union.

Buzz: Speilberg and Tom Hanks reunited is enough to get me excited, mix together the elements of a cold war spy story and this has me.  Early word is this could be an Oscar contender!

Spectre – 007

Release Date : October

A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

Buzz: It’s James Bond, Spectre, Sam Mendes directing and Sam Smith singing the theme song – this is a straight out the park mega blockbuster that I cannot wait to see!

The Walk

Release Date : October

The story of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit’s attempt to cross the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974.

Buzz: Petit’s act was moving and beautiful—and illegal. As the 2008 documentary “Man on Wire” showed, setting it up had the suspense of a jewel heist. With Zemeckis at the helm this is going to be one amazing movie!

The Hateful Eight

Release Date : December US / Jan 2016 UK
A Quentin Tarantino western involving bounty hunters, their prisoners and other characters thrown together during a Wyoming blizzard.

Buzz: A new Quentin Tarantino film is all you really need to know!  With an amazing cast – Tarantino has once again assembled an intriguing mix of Tarantino veterans—Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, and cinematographer Robert Richardson—and talented Tarantino newbies—Jennifer Jason Leigh, Demian Bichir, Channing Tatum, and the immortal composer Ennio Morricone—all in glorious 70mm Cinemascope and with a fantastic script this looks to be a sure fire must-see!
